Popular movements on digital platforms – Panel, Swedish

Internet has fundamentally changed how we socialise, communicate and organise. In civil society, some organisations and movements have been very quick in picking up on new opportunities, others have more or less opposed digitalisation. Social media can enable activism and organising, but have also become a frontier for online hate and are prone to filter bubbles. In this panel, we will discuss what lessons queer or nerdy activists should take away, challenges and opportunities that come with the current media landscape.

History of BL and Yaoi – lecture, English

How did a niche topic in manga for girls in the 1970ies become a internationally established genre? A lecture about shonen-ai, boy’s love and yaoi – male/male romance manga. Introducing some foundational BL creators like Takemiya Keiko and Moto Hagio, the lecture touches upon the economics of depicting same-sex desire in manga and the close ties to fanzine culture.
On the way, we’ll try to untangle vocabulary, see where some of the stereotypes came from and if they’re still hanging around and hopefully have fun. Followed by a recommendation panel to help you find new and old BL!

The revenge of the meat world – how the physical matters in nerdy communities – lecture, Swedish

In this panel we will discuss how physical and media are getting a new weight in building nerdy communities. Games have become prenumerations, meeting places forums… However we also see physical media like DVD and VHS making a combeback, as more nerds want to physically own their games and movies. This might be particularly important for queer and alternative communities, already subject to censorship in conventional media. Physical meeting places have similarly gained importance to find safe communities in the world of nerds.

Folkbildning is an integral part of Swedish culture and society but also have a lot to give to people engaged in nerd culture. RPG and larp has long been explored as pedagogical methods and many different parts of nerdom includes learning, from how to work with new material in cosplay to game strategies online and in board games. What is done today to include nerdy subjects in the folkbildning movement, and what can you gain from joining the folkbildning movement as a nerd?

Nerdines as Autism/ADHD inclusion – Panel, Swedish

Nerds, ADHD and Autism simply go together, and there are plenty of examples of how nerdy activities can be a shortcut to neurodiverse inclusion. We discuss lessons, traps and opportunities. Participants from three different types of activities with the ambition to be neurodivergently inclusive – a nerd organisation, a Larp-business and a daily activity.

The Omegaverse: A fanfiction history about gender, sex and fantasies – Lecture, English

Alpha/Beta/Omega or Omegaverse is the gender, sex and genital-bending fanfiction trope that has sailed the shippy oceans for 15+ years. Inspiring written and drawn pornography, stories that criticise societies and play with power dynamics, the trope has crossed multiple language barriers and leapt from fanfiction to published comics, books and TV-series.
From its inception on an anonymous fandom kink meme, the Omegaverse has caused arguments regarding consent, appropriation and terminology – but also attracted masses of creative force and clearly has a strong allure to many. Follow along on a history from the beginning of the trope.
